Создано в 1935 для оказания экономической помощи индейцам путем расширения рынка сбыта произведений их искусства и ремесел. Согласно закону об индейских искусствах и ремеслах 1990 [Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990] торговлей такими товарами могут заниматься только члены признанных федеральными властями племен. Ныне годовой объем продаж товаров в этом сегменте колеблется от 50 до 100 млн. долларов.
